Appearance

White granular crystals.

Solubility

soluble in alcohol and essential oils

Odor

Mild and sweet-spicy, balsamic-fruity odor, reminiscent of carnation. Earthy-fresh notes, or leafy-fioral notes not uncommon.

Uses in perfumery

Used in perfumes to emphasize floralness in carnation, along with iso-Eugenol, Amyl oxy-iso-eugenol, etc. Fresher than these, but also milder. Not stable in white soap or alkali.

Uses in flavor

For berry, fruit, mint, spice and vanilla types.

Production

Produced from Eugenol by Acetylization.
