Appearance

Colorless mobile liquid.

Solubility

Miscible with water, ethyl alcohol, ether and most essential oils and perfume chemicals.

Odor

Light ethereal-nauseating and powerful odor of very poor tenacity. Irritant at high concentration, rather pleasant in dilution.

Flavor

Sweet and slightly burning taste.

Uses in perfumery

Occasionally used as a diffusive top note in perfumes, or as an additive to colognes or other perfume solutions in order to make them smell more “ethereal”- aged, mellow.

Uses in flavor

It forms an interesting part of the volatile portion of Coffee flavor and other food flavors.

Production

Produced synthetically from butanol, or from iso-propanol, or by biochemical synthesis from sugars or starches (fermentation process).

Compliance note. Restriction data is sourced directly from IFRA publications and preserved with its document excerpt. Perfume Foundry is a compliance-support tool — not a substitute for a qualified safety assessor (CPSR / PIF).
