Acetyl Caproyl (methyl heptenone / heptan-2-one family — commonly the trade name for methyl amyl ketone or a related ketone used as a dairy-fruity note) has a rich, creamy, slightly cheesy-buttery character with a coconut-like waxy facet. In dilution it reads as a soft dairy fruitiness that supports peach, coconut and gardenia accords.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Yellowish oily liquid.

Solubility

Slightly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils, in Propylene glycol and Glycerin.

Odor

Powerful and sweet, oily-buttery odor with herbaceous-cheesy undertone, yet not rancid or unpleasant in dilution.

Flavor

Creamy-cheesy, mildly buttery taste in dilutions near 10 ppm.

Uses in perfumery

Used on a very limited scale in perfume compositions, mainly as a trace component in top note compositions, where it gives interesting effects in the presence of Civet and Phenylacetic acid, or certain Labdanum products, etc. It is also of good use in Ylang Ylang compositions and in many other flower bases.

Compliance note. Restriction data is sourced directly from IFRA publications and preserved with its document excerpt. Perfume Foundry is a compliance-support tool — not a substitute for a qualified safety assessor (CPSR / PIF).
