A powerful green-fruity aroma chemical with a pronounced violet-leaf and cucumber character, backed by a waxy, slightly fatty undertone reminiscent of unripe melon rind and crushed leaves. Diffusive and natural-smelling at trace levels, it can become sharp and vegetal if overdosed.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Colorless oily liquid.
Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.
Powerful, but also sweet-leafy-green odor, closely resembling the odor of crushed Violet leaves. Less pungent, and less fatty than the lower alkyl heptin carbonates.
Still used in perfumery as a specific topnote ingredient in many floral fragrances - other than Violet: Lilac, Sweet Pea, Tuberose, Gardenia, etc.
Produced from Heptyne-sodium and iso-Amyl chloroformate. Heptyne is usually prepared from Heptaldehyde, which is derived from Castor oil.
