A powerful fatty-aldehydic material with a distinctive orange-peel and waxy character. Reminiscent of Aldehyde C-12 MNA but with a rounder, more citrus-floral facet — recalls fresh orange rind, hot ironed linen, and a soapy floral warmth. Diffusive and enveloping, giving lift and radiance to florals and colognes.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless waxy solid mass, melting at 30° C. to a colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Mild citrusy-waxy odor with a faintly fruity note reminiscent of banana pulp (the non-ethereal note) or peach (the dry note).

Uses in perfumery

Has been suggested for use in perfume compositions, and may find some use in artificial flower absolutes and aldehydic topnote compositions, as a modifier/fixative.

Production

1) By condensation of 2 Mol. Heptanal, followed by hydrogenation. 2) The above condensation product, n-Amyl-nonenal, is a by-product in the manufacture of Amylcinnamic aldehyde, and the unsaturated Amyl-nonenal can be hydrogenated to the title material.
