Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Odor

Sharp and pungent green foliage type odor, almost choking-gassy in the pure state, more pleasant at concentrations below 0.1% in an odorless solvent.

Uses in perfumery

Has been suggested for use in perfume compositions as a modifier for Methyl heptin carbonate and other alkyl pentin, hexin, heptin or octin carbonates. It is slightly more floral than MHC but almost as pungent.

Production

Produced from Methyl propyl ketone to make n-Pent-yne. Pentyne sodium is reacted with iso-Amyl chloroformate to yield the ester.
