Descriptors

A soft, diffusive floral-aldehydic material with a green, slightly waxy character reminiscent of lily-of-the-valley and hyacinth. Has a mild phenolic undertone from the para-tertiary-amyl phenol backbone, with a clean, airy floral radiance that opens into a slightly powdery, fresh drydown.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Peculiar fruity-green, more grassy, less woody odor, as compared to the aldehyde itself. Much sweeter, not nearly as dry or harsh.

Uses in perfumery

Suggested as a modifier for the Aldehyde, and in general as a new green odor for floral and non-floral compositions.

Production

Produced from para-tertiary-amyl phenol in weak aqueous NaOH plus monochloroacetal = CH, CICH(OC,H;s), to yield the acetal.
