Descriptors

A pungent, diffusive pyridine derivative with a strong roasted-nutty, green vegetal character reminiscent of raw cocoa, toasted grain and slightly animalic earthiness. In dilution it takes on a savory, coffee-and-hazelnut facet with a lingering musty green undertone.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Pale yellowish or almost colorless liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Sweet-herbaceous, slightly floral tobacco-like note, somewhat reminiscent of elderflowers (animal undertones).

Uses in perfumery

Has been suggested for use in floral fragrance compositions, but it seems that perfumers in general are hesitant to use this chemical and its homologues, probably on account of a possible skin-irritation hazard.
