waxyfatty

A very mild, waxy-fatty ester with a soft oily character and a faint fruity nuance. Used more as a low-odor solvent and fixative/diluent than for its own scent — it lends smoothness and helps anchor volatile top notes without contributing much aroma of its own.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless leafy crystals.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol, miscible with oils.

Odor

Very faint waxy-fatty odor, or practically odorless.

Uses in perfumery

Has been suggested as a modifier-fixative in certain flower bases, as a blender in Orris-type fragrances, as an extender for Ionones, etc. Does not seem to contribute significantly to the overall odor of such compositions.

Production

Produced from Sebacic acid (from Castor oil by alkali heating and distillation) with iso-Amyl alcohol, direct esterification.
