Fresh, dry pine-needle character with a cool camphoraceous lift and a clean woody-balsamic undertone. The laevo isomer is prized for its softer, more natural fir-balsam quality compared to the racemic form, with a slightly sweet coniferous facet that persists into the drydown.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless liquid or crystalline mass, melting at 29° C. (when pure).

Solubility

Very slightly soluble in water, almost insoluble in Propylene Glycol and Glycerin, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Sweet herbaceous-piney odor with a balsamic undertone. Reminiscent of Pine Needles.

Flavor

Finds some use in flavor compositions for Fruit and Spice flavorings. The concentration will usually be about 70-80 ppm in the finished product.

Uses in perfumery

Suggested for use in Fougeres, Chypres, Lavender colognes, Room spray fragrances, Bath oils, Pine fragrances, etc. Its odor is richer than that of the iso-Bornyl acetate.

Production

Produced by esterification of laevo-Borneol. On account of its high melting point it can also be isolated from a mixture of isomers.
