Descriptors
floralsweet

A powerful, sharp green-floral aroma reminiscent of hyacinth and crushed leaves, with a bitter-almond nuance underneath. Very diffusive and penetrating, with a somewhat harsh, chemical edge that softens on dilution into a leafy, narcissus-like floralcy.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Pale yellowish mobile liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Pungent-sweet, gassy-floral odor, reminiscent of Hyacinth in extreme dilution. Slightly softer than the odor of omega-Bromostyrol.

Uses in perfumery

Has been suggested as a modifier for the classic chemical omega-Bromostyrol, but does not seem to offer significant advantages.

Production

Produced from Styrene by treatment with Bromine. The resulting Styrene dibromide is treated with alcoholic KOH to yield alpha-Bromostyrol.
