A fresh, green, slightly fatty-waxy note with a distinct melon-cucumber facet. Isobutyl allyl carbinol (6-methyl-hept-1-en-4-ol) has a natural, watery-green character reminiscent of freshly cut cucumber and honeydew rind, with a soft aliphatic undertone.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Odor

Powerful, woody-green somewhat oily odor, reminiscent of fresh woodsap and bark. At proper dilution, the woody notes become more minty-earthy, root-like, dry.

Uses in perfumery

Has been suggested for use in perfume compositions as a modifier for other 'green' chemicals, often in combination with Ionones, Vetiver oil, iso-Butylsalicylate, etc.

Production

Produced (several methods) e.g.: from iso-Valeric aldehyde plus Allyl magnesium bromide by Grignard synthesis.
