Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Fresh-green-citrusy, almost herbaceous odor, usually contaminated with a Dill-weed like odor from iso-Pulegyl acetate.

Uses in perfumery

This enol acetate is rather unstable on storage, and has never achieved much popularity among perfumers, mainly because of its variable odor and progressive deterioration.

Production

Produced by Acetylation of Citronellal with Acetic anhydride and Sodium acetate (anhydrous) at low temperature.
