Colorless slightly oily liquid.
Insoluble in water, almost insoluble in propylene glycol, soluble in alcohol, miscible with perfume oils and most flavor materials.
Warm-fruity, somewhat herbaceous, slightly rosy odor with undertones reminiscent of dried herbs or tobacco leaves, also slightly honey-like.
Deep-herbaceous, not very sweet, but pleasant honey-tobacco-like, somewhat fruity taste.
Used in perfume compositions as a modifier with lower esters of Citronellol. Also in support of Benzyl valerate, Linalyl-valerate, etc. in honey-like or tobacco-like notes. It seems to introduce more herbaceous-rosy notes than floral notes.
Occasionally used in flavor compositions - in traces only - for imitation honey, apple, apricot, pear, in tutti-frutti, etc.
Produced by direct esterification of Citronellol with n-Valeric acid under azeotropic conditions.
