Para-cresyl methyl ether has an intensely diffusive, narcotic floral odor with strong ylang-ylang and tuberose facets. Underneath the floral top there is a distinct phenolic, almost tar-like sweetness with hints of anise and clove. Powerful and radiant, it quickly saturates a blend if overdosed.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Uses in perfumery

Occasionally used in perfume compositions as a modifier in heavy floral bases, Cananga, Yiang-Ylang, etc.

Uses in flavor

Finds some use in flavor compositions, mainly in imitation Nut, Black Walnut, Walnut, Maple, Spice blends and certain Berry type flavors.

Produced from ortho-Cresol in weak aqueous alkali solution with Dimethylsulfate.
