Descriptors
greenherbaceousjasmin

A dense, narcotic white-floral chemical with a smoky, phenolic edge — reminiscent of tuberose and narcissus with a leathery, almost tar-like undertone. Softer and less feral than para-cresyl acetate, with a cleaner floral lift, but still carries the characteristic barnyard/horsey animalic facet in the drydown.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Very slightly soluble in water, soluble in alcohols and oils.

Odor

Very powerful Lily-Jasmin-Lilac type odor. The herbaceous and green notes are more pronounced in this ester than in the Acetate, and the overall odor impression bears some resemblance to Lilac and Jasmin. The dry undertone is also characteristic of this ester.

Uses in perfumery

An interesting item for Hyacinth and Lilac, e.g. as a modifier for Benzyl formate.

Production

Produced from para-Cresol and Formic acid (or Formacetic acid mixture) using Acetic anhydride or Mineral acid catalyst.
