A soft, honeyed floral ester with a rosy-jasmine facet and a green, slightly herbaceous top note from the crotyl group. Reminiscent of phenylacetate-type materials (hyacinth, honey, narcissus) but rounder and less sharp, with a warm balsamic sweetness on drydown.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Warm and very sweet, Honey-Tobacco-like odor with warm, herbaceous undertones.

Uses in perfumery

This ester, rarely offered commercially, has found a little use in perfume compositions and it introduces very attractive notes in modern 'tabac' fragrance types, particularly with Oakmoss, Vetiver, Lavandin absolute, Clove bud oil, Bergamot, Civet, etc. For special effects in certain types of Rose, it supplies absolutely unique undertones, and it can be used at relatively high concentration without causing unpleasant single notes.

Production

Produced by direct esterification of 2-Buten-1-ol with Phenylacetic acid under azeotropic conditions.
