A soft, woody-violet aromachemical in the methylionone family — velvety orris-root character with a dry cedar-like woodiness underneath. Powdery and slightly floral, discreet rather than loud, giving smooth diffusion and a refined violet-wood signature.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless to pale yellowish oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils. Poorly soluble in Propylene glycol.

Odor

The odor varies according to isomer ratio, but can generally be classified as warm, violet-like, sweet, yet somewhat powdery and very tenacious.

Uses in perfumery

This ketone is used in fine perfumery where warm and powdery, rich, sweet and lasting Ionone-type odors are desirable. This material seems less prone to discoloration or yellowing than many of its lower homologues.

Production

Produced from Citral and Diethylketone by condensation, followed by cyclization.
