A soft woody-floral aroma chemical with a fresh, slightly green rosy character. Reminiscent of geraniol but rounder, drier and less citrus-sweet, with a mild cedar-like undertone that lends a natural, transparent quality to floral and woody accords.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless or pale yellowish, oily liquid.

Odor

Rather minty, fresh and slightly green odor, reminiscent of that of Pulegol, but more Eucalyptus-like, cool, and not very floral. Diffusive and not very tenacious.

Uses in perfumery

Has been suggested for use in perfume com- positions, but its overall character does not make it generally attractive, and there are many and less expensive materials that will produce similar notes and effects.

Production

Produced from Geraniol via Geranyl acetate, which by acid cyclization gives Cyclogeranyl acetate. The latter is hydrolyzed to yield a mixture of alpha- and beta-Cyclogeraniol.
