Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Sweet fatty-fruity odor of Pineapple-Orange-like character, and rosy waxy undertones.

Flavor

Finds some use in flavor compositions, mainly for imitation Apple, Berry, Honey, Orange, Peach, Plum, etc. and also in Rum flavors.

Uses in perfumery

Finds a little use in perfume compositions as a modifier for Linalyl acetate, and generally as a fresh note in delicate florals (Muguet, etc.) or in aldehydic topnote compositions. It blends excellently with Dodecanal (Aldehyde C-12, Lauric).

Production

Produced by direct esterification of n-Decanol with Acetic acid under azeotropic conditions or with Acetic anhydride.
