Descriptors
herbaceousoilycinnamic

A soft, waxy-floral aldehyde with a creamy jasmine facet and a distinctly fatty, oily undertone reminiscent of longer-chain cinnamic aldehydes. Less spicy than hexyl cinnamic aldehyde, with a heavier, more diffusive floral character that lingers as a sweet, tallowy warmth.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Pale yellowish oily liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils, poorly soluble in propylene glycol.

Odor

Almost odorless when pure, but is capable of introducing pleasant oily-herbaceous and very tenacious notes in compositions.

Uses in perfumery

Its effect is rather mild and weak, and does not appear very unusual. Its price is considerably higher than that of the conventional substituted cinnamic aldehydes.

Production

Produced from benzaldehyde and dodecanal (lauric aldehyde) by condensation.
