An oily, waxy fruit note with a soft green-pear character and a mild fatty undertone reminiscent of the crotonate ester family. Rounded and slightly creamy rather than sharp, it lends a natural fruit-skin nuance to accords.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Mild, oily-ethereal, faintly herbaceous odor of good tenacity.

Uses in perfumery

This ester finds some use in perfume compositions, especially in herbaceous fragrances, where a warm, mild background note is desirable, e.g. in Lavender-Chypres, along with Oakmoss and Opopanax, etc. but also under distinctly floral fragrances, as a 'natural' mellow note in Lily, Rose, etc. It performs very well as a companion to Coriander in modern 'fantasy' type fragrances.

Production

Produced by direct esterification of n-Decanol with 2-Butenoic acid (trans-Crotonic acid).
