A soft, diffusive woody-musky material with a clean powdery character and subtle ambery warmth. It has a rounded, slightly waxy feel that blurs and extends other notes rather than asserting itself, functioning as a smooth fixative in the drydown.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Slightly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Sweet ethereal odor of moderate to poor tenacity. Its fruity notes are pleasant, but not characteristic of any particular fruit.

Uses in perfumery

This acetal has been suggested for use in perfume compositions, but it does not seem to have attracted much interest. It lacks character and does not lend any unusual notes or effects not obtainable with other perfume chemicals.

Production

Produced by condensation of formaldehyde with cyclohexanol. The material may also be prepared from cyclohexanol and methyl-ortho-formate.
