Diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (methyl carbitol) is a high-boiling glycol ether solvent with only a very faint, mild ethereal-sweet odor. It is essentially odorless in perfumery use and functions as a diluent/solvent rather than an olfactory contributor.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Colorless liquid.
Miscible with water, alcohol and most oils. Not clearly soluble in mineral oil and many terpenes, other hydrocarbons, etc.
Faint, rather dry-musty, somewhat ethereal odor, not exactly pleasant.
Finds some use as a solvent in perfumes, but has little advantage other than its solubility in water and perfume oils at the same time. It is not volatile enough to substitute alcohol, and not high-boiling enough to act as a fixative-blender.
Occurs as a by-product in the manufacture of methyl cellosolve.
