Descriptors
floral

A soft, clean floral-fresh aroma reminiscent of citronellal but rounder and less sharp, with a green lily-of-the-valley character and a subtle citrus lift. Less pungent than citronellal, giving a smoother, slightly waxy floral impression that supports muguet and cologne accords.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless slightly oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Powerful, fresh-green lemony-sharp odor with a floral, lime-like note. Overall bearing some resemblance to the odor of Citral, but lacks the sweetness of that aldehyde.

Uses in perfumery

This aldehyde has already found extensive use not only as a replacement for Citral — in part or in full — but also generally as a fresh-citrusy note of greater stability than Citral.

Uses in flavor

Not yet specifically listed as G.R.A.S. in the U.S. Federal Register, there should be a good chance that this chemical may be permitted in flavors.
