Appearance

Almost colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

From an odor point of view, they are rather disappointing, being weaker or milder than alpha-lonone and resembling that ketone in character.

Uses in perfumery

They were developed in an attempt to find more stable versions of the Irone theme, but they do not seem to distinguish themselves with greater stability.

Production

Produced from alpha-Irone by hydrogenation in presence of Raney-nickel catalyst.
