Descriptors
dryhard

A soft, refined iris-woody note with a warm violet character. Less powdery and more woody-fruity than alpha-irone, with a gentle sweetness and a rounded, creamy orris facet. Adds elegance and a natural iris-butter feel to floral and woody compositions.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Almost colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Dry and rather hard odor, generally considered undesirable, yet reminiscent of beta-Irone in overall type.

Uses in perfumery

This ketone has been manufactured on a very limited scale, but has, to the author's knowledge, not found any significant application in perfumery.

Production

Produced by hydrogenation of beta-Irone. The reaction mixture contains not only the title material, but also Tetrahydro irones and related materials.
