Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Deep-sweet, rosy-tobacco-like odor with a faintly honey-like, floral undertone, the floral notes resembling the undertones in Jasmin.

Flavor

Occasionally used in flavor compositions of the fruity type, where its waxy-honey-like sweetness blends well into fruit-peel type flavors.

Uses in perfumery

Excellent base material for Rose bases of the 'Rose absolute' type. Blends well with Trichloro methyl phenyl carbinyl acetate into highly fixative and extraordinarily tenacious compositions.

Production

Produced from Dimethyl octanol and Phenyl-acetic acid in the presence of a catalyst, preferably under azeotropic conditions.
