Colorless mobile liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils, almost insoluble in propylene glycol.

Odor

Powerful leafy-green, but rather gassy-pungent odor of moderate to good tenacity.

Uses in perfumery

This acetylenic ester has been used in perfume compositions for its powerful green effect, but the author believes that the material has become obsolete in competition with more natural smelling acetylenic esters and lately, in competition with the Hexenols and esters.

Production

Produced from Methylheptenone via 6-Methyl-n-hept-5-en-l-yne to the acid from which the ester is prepared.
