A soft, waxy-fatty ester with a subtle creamy-musky character reminiscent of clean skin and warm beeswax. Very mild and diffusive rather than loud, adding a smooth lipid-like roundness that supports musks and lactonic notes.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Very faint, sweet odor, by some observers classified as 'musky', others find the material virtually odorless.

Flavor

It is said to impart a sweetness and mellowness to fruit flavors, wine flavors, etc. which is normally obtained only by proper ageing.

Uses in flavor

The ester could find some use in flavor compositions, mainly in wine and fruit flavors, imitation honey, etc.

Production

Produced from (naturally occurring) palmitic acid via pentadecyl methylketone, by oxidation to pentadecanoic acid, which is esterified to subject material.
