Appearance

Colorless or white crystals.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Very faint, sweet-herbaceous odor of good tenacity.

Uses in perfumery

Although repeatedly mentioned in perfume literature, the subject ester does not seem to have created any interest among perfumers. Its effect is too weak, its overall odor value insignificant.

Production

Produced from Heliotropine and Malonic ester, using Piperidine catalyst to yield Piperonyl acrylic acid, which is esterified to subject material.
