Fenchyl butyrate has a fresh, fruity-green odor with a distinctive camphoraceous-herbaceous facet from the fenchyl group. The butyrate ester lends a soft, ripe fruity nuance reminiscent of pineapple or apple skin, sitting over a cool, slightly piney-woody base.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Odor

Mild and sweet-herbaceous odor with some resemblance to overripe fruit. Also reminiscent of fresh Valerian root (free from the obnoxious odor of acid from aged roots).

Flavor

Sweet and herbaceous, somewhat spicy taste.

Uses in perfumery

This ester, only rarely offered, has been suggested for use in perfume compositions as a modifier in sophisticated Pine fragrances, Cypress odors, etc. for room sprays etc.

Production

Produced from Pinene by hydration including the use of n-Butyric acid.
