Appearance

Colorless mobile liquid.

Solubility

Soluble in water, miscible with alcohol, soluble in some oils, not in all.

Odor

It has an extremely diffusive, ethereal odor, resembling that of Methyl formate or Ethyl nitrite, briefly: ethereal.

Uses in perfumery

This acetal which, to the author’s knowledge, is not used as such in perfumes or flavors, is mentioned because it is not only a good solvent and used for that purpose in extractions, but it is also an intermediate in making other acetals from Formaldehyde.

Production

Produced from Chloromethyl methylether plus Sodium methoxide.
