Descriptors
floral

A soft floral-green aroma chemical reminiscent of hyacinth and lily-of-the-valley with a fresh, slightly waxy phenethyl-alcohol facet. Rounded and clean rather than sharp, it lends a natural leafy-floral lift to muguet and green floral accords.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and perfume oils.

Odor

Peculiar oily-herbaceous odor, not unlike that of Amylcinnamic aldehyde, but not as tenacious, not as purely oily-herbaceous. The subject acetal has a more musty note, quite typical of many glycol acetals.

Uses in perfumery

This cyclic acetal is also part of several well-known perfume specialties.

Production

Produced from Phenylethylene glycol and Formaldehyde with water and Sulfuric acid, by heating.
