Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Sweet-rosy odor, not as mild as Geraniol, and not as fruity, more herbaceous or remotely green, less creamy.

Flavor

Floral, but not quite sweet taste, overall weaker than that of Geraniol.

Uses in perfumery

This alcohol has been suggested for use as a modifier for Geraniol, but it seems that its odor type is not sufficiently different, and its power somewhat deficient.

Production

Produced by reduction of iso-Citral with Sodium amalgam in alcoholic solution, followed by treatment with Acetic acid.
