Descriptors
sweetvanilla

Soft, powdery floral with a marzipan-like almond sweetness and a gentle vanillic-balsamic warmth. Evokes heliotrope and cherry-blossom accents, rounded and creamy without the sharpness of heliotropin. Diffuses quietly and adds a smooth, cosmetic powderiness to florals.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Crystal needles, colorless or white.

Solubility

Slightly soluble in hot water, soluble in alcohol, miscible with most perfume oils.

Odor

Weak, sweet, nondescript odor, remotely reminiscent of Vanilla.

Uses in perfumery

The alcohol as such has probably very little value as a perfume or flavor material. Certain esters are used to some extent but the author finds that there is rarely, if ever, a definite need for Heliotropyl alcohol in a perfume or flavor.

Production

Produced from Heliotropine by reduction with Sodium amalgam in alcohol.
