Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Somewhat fatty-oily odor, softer than that of Heptanol, and less fruity.

Uses in perfumery

This acid has been suggested for use in perfume compositions, but the author finds that there is little, if any, use of the acid as such in perfumery.

Production

Produced from Sodium heptoxide and Monochloracetic acid, followed by saponification of the resulting ester.
