A warm, spicy-clove aroma with a softer, more diffusive character than eugenol itself. The heptyl chain adds a woody, slightly fatty smoothness and greatly increases tenacity, giving a rounded carnation-clove nuance with balsamic undertones.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless or pale straw-colored oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils, practically insoluble in propylene glycol.

Odor

Leather-like, somewhat tarry and dry odor (topnote), becoming sweeter on longer study, more fruity on dryout. Overall a 'Cuir de Russie' type with sweet undertones.

Uses in perfumery

This ester has been suggested for use in perfume compositions as part of the 'leather' complex for so-called 'Cuir de Russie' fragrance types, and for various types of 'Men’s fragrances' of the recently revived kind. It blends well with Ionones, Ylang or Cananga oils, Amylsalicylate, Hydroquinone dimethylether, Oakmoss products, etc.

Production

Produced from n-Heptyl bromide and Eugenol in alcoholic alkaline solution.
