waxy

A very faint, oily-waxy material with a slight fatty character. Essentially near-odorless on its own — used primarily as an emollient solvent and light fixative rather than for its scent contribution.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in oils and alcohol.

Odor

Very weak, waxy, mild odor, characteristic of Stearic-Palmitic compounds.

Uses in perfumery

The ester could find a little use in perfume compositions for floral bases, e.g. Tuberose, Jonquil, Lily etc. where the waxy character may duplicate the natural 'petal' odor.

Production

Produced by direct esterification of n-Heptanol with Myristic acid under azeotropic conditions.
