A soft, waxy aldehydic material with a clean green-floral character reminiscent of hexahydrofarnesyl acetone but with more diffusive lift. Fatty-creamy in the drydown with hints of lily and cyclamen freshness, less pungent than farnesal itself.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Pleasant, sweet-rosy, citrusy odor, less floral than Trimethyl undecanal and Tetrahydro farnesal.

Uses in perfumery

This aldehyde finds some use in perfume compositions although the related aldehydes are generally superior.

Production

1) by hydrogenation of Farnesol with Raney-Nickel catalyst, followed by oxidation to the subject aldehyde. 2) from Nerolidol via oxidation to Farnesal which is hydrogenated to subject aldehyde.
