A Schiff-base condensation of hydroxycitronellal and methyl (or ethyl) anthranilate, giving a soft, creamy lily-of-the-valley note with a sweet, powdery orange-blossom facet. Very sweet, heavy-floral and extremely tenacious odor of Honey-Orangeblossom-Magnolia type.
This base, although closely related to the widely used methylhomologue, is only rarely used in perfumes or flavors. It forms an excellent base for a Frangipanni (fantasy) fragrance, Magnolia and - naturally - as a modifier in Orangeblossom, Honeysuckle, etc.
Produced by condensation of ethyl anthranilate and hydroxycitronellal.
