A soft, sweet floral-anisic aldehyde with a distinct hawthorn and mimosa character. Reminiscent of heliotropin and anisaldehyde crossed with a hay-like, slightly almondy powder. Rounded and diffusive rather than sharp, with a gentle coumarinic undertone that lingers into a soft powdery drydown.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless or pale yellowish viscous liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Sweet-green and somewhat floral odor with good tenacity and rich, sweet, flower-stem-like undertones.

Uses in perfumery

This aldehyde, rarely offered under its proper chemical name, is used in perfume compositions for its powerful green, bark-like and flower-stem-like effect, normally in conjunction with foliage-green or herbaceous-green notes, as a part of a green complex or base. It lends almost honey-like undertones, very useful in variations of Rose, Honeysuckle, Sweet Pea, etc.

Production

Produced from (several methods) e. g. from para-Hydroxy phenoxyacetic acid via its chloride to para-phenoxyacetal, which by acid hydrolysis yields subject material.
