A warm, sweet balsamic aromachemical with a soft floral-powdery character reminiscent of benzyl acetate and cinnamic notes. Related to benzalacetophenone (chalcone) but with a methyl group giving a slightly more rounded, honeyed floral tonality. Long-lasting and quiet on the blotter, functions as a fixative in floral and oriental accords.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless viscous liquid, solidifying in the cold.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Warm and sweet, deep-floral, heavy odor, reminiscent of exotic flowers, Tuberose, Gardenia, etc. and with a remote resemblance to refined Labdanum.

Uses in perfumery

This ketone has been suggested for use in perfume compositions, but it is rarely offered commercially under its proper name. The subject material could find some use in perfumes and floral bases, such as Mimosa, Tuberose, Gardenia, Honeysuckle, Orange-blossom, etc. and as a fixative in many other heavy floral types, Oriental fragrances, etc.

Production

Produced by condensation of para-Methyl-acetophenone with Benzaldehyde.
