A fresh floral-green aroma chemical reminiscent of lily-of-the-valley with a soft woody-aldehydic facet. Clean and slightly waxy, sitting between muguet materials like Lilial and cyclamen aldehyde with a mild cyclohexyl warmth underneath.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Sweet-floral, slightly green odor of moderate to good tenacity. The floral notes are rather nondescript, and the effect is more of a floral lift than truly an added floralcy.

Uses in perfumery

This aldehyde represents another type of the series of chemicals developed from Limonene (or Dipentene). Most of these materials have never been offered commercially under their chemical name, but they have, in many cases, formed component of certain perfume bases and specialties.

Production

Produced by regulated hydrogenation of beta-(4-Methylcyclohexenyl)-butanal.
