Also known as Aldehyde C-12 MNA (methyl nonyl acetaldehyde). A powerful fatty-aldehydic material with a bright, waxy citrus-peel character reminiscent of orange rind and neroli, warming into a soapy floral facet. Sharp and diffusive at trace levels, becoming clean and slightly ambery on dry-down.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Dry-waxy, moderately powerful, but tenacious odor. In dilution quite refreshing, but lacks the Ambregris-like notes of the lower homologue.

Uses in perfumery

The title material could be used with Oakmoss, Labdanum, Styrax, Galbanum, etc. in new variations of classic odor themes, but it could also give interesting effects in Pine needle fragrances.

Production

Produced from Methyl decyl ketone via the glycidic ester by Darzens synthesis.
