This ester, commercially available at a cost much below that of Methyl jasmonate, has been suggested as a substitute for the naturally occurring ester. However, it does not have quite the same power in its sweetness, and its floral notes are somewhat harder than those of the Methyljasmonate. These slight drawbacks must be weighed against the considerable cost difference. As long as Methyljasmonate remains at its very elevated cost, there is a good chance that the isomer will find use in various types of artificial Jasmin absolute, Tuberose, Gardenia and many other heavy-sweet floral types.
