Ambiguous shorthand — most likely methyl phenyl acetate: a sweet, honeyed floral note with a jasmine-like undertone and a soft balsamic warmth. Rounded and slightly rummy on dry-down, not sharp. Name could also refer to styrallyl acetate (gardenia-green) so treat with caution.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Odor

Material is virtually odorless. Commercial grades display variable amounts of orange blossom or lilac or narcisse-type odor, depending upon the method of production and purity of the resulting ester.

Uses in perfumery

It could find some use as a fixative since its effect is quite apparent when it is mixed with lower boiling odorant chemicals. It can give useful effects in honeysuckle, sweet pea and other sweet florals.

Production

Produced from isatoic anhydride and methyl phenyl carbinol.
