A soft, green-floral aroma reminiscent of hyacinth and fresh rose petals, with a mild spicy-aromatic nuance underneath. Cleaner and greener than phenylethyl alcohol itself, with a slightly earthy, leafy facet that emerges over time.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Sweet and mild, floral odor of Lilac-Rose type.

Uses in perfumery

The subject alcohol finds some use in perfume compositions as a base for inexpensive Lilac, Rose, Honeysuckle and other floral fragrance types, and in Fougéres, Chypres, etc. It gives modifying notes to a Hyacinth and blends very well with all the Cinnamic derivatives.

Production

Produced from ortho-Tolyl magnesium bromide plus Ethylene chlorhydrin.
