A soft, waxy floral aroma chemical reminiscent of the fatty-aldehydic facet of gardenia and tuberose petals. Opens with a creamy, slightly oily bloom and settles into a clean, mildly musky floral character with a subtle rose-like nuance.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Very mild, herbaceous-woody-oily odor of good tenacity but of rather uninteresting type.

Uses in perfumery

This carbinol was probably developed in line with a large number of lower homologues, and the success of certain carbinols encouraged a wider search. It is not a particularly low-cost product, and it has very little odor value. Therefore, it may be reasonable to say that the material is about to become obsolete in perfumery.

Production

Produced from Methyl nonyl ketone and Phenylmagnesium bromide in Ethylether solution (Grignard reaction).
