Appearance

Colorless, slightly viscous liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Green-woody, floral and relatively sweet odor of good tenacity. The woody notes resemble Amyris and Sandalwood to some degree.

Uses in perfumery

This ketone has been suggested for use in perfume compositions as a blender/modifier for Cyclamenaldehyde and Ionones, e.g. in Mimosa bases, and in delicately woody or woody-musky fragrance types. It performs well in soap, but it is rarely sold under its chemical name and is probably not well known as a fragrance chemical.

Production

Produced by hydrogenation of 1-Methyl-4-iso-propyl propiophenone.
